Psiphase is made by one person, so when you ask for help you get a person.
Getting help
Email lawrence@hession-kent.com. Tell me which iPhone you have and which version of the app. The version is at the bottom of the About screen in the app. The About screen also answers most questions: how to use the app, what each session does, what each setting does, the science, safety, and your data.
Common questions
What is Psiphase, in one sentence?
An app that helps you calm down with slow breathing, sound and a calm voice, and only ever tells you what it can really measure.
Do I need headphones?
No. Two of the three pulse sounds work through the phone speaker. Only the one called binaural needs headphones.
Do I need the heart strap?
No. Everything works with just the phone, using your breathing and how still you are. If you wear a Polar H10 chest strap, the app can also see your heartbeat, so an Adaptive session can respond to how you are actually doing rather than just running on the clock.
What if a call comes in?
The session pauses itself the moment the sound goes, and when you come back it asks whether to carry on or end. Nothing is lost. To stop calls altogether, use Airplane Mode and turn Bluetooth back on if you use a heart strap. More under Before you start.
Is this therapy?
No. It is for feeling calmer and for exploring. It does not diagnose or treat anything.
Can I lie down? What if I fall asleep?
Lying down is fine. The ending plays whether your eyes are open or shut. The app cannot tell if you have fallen asleep and will not wake you. That is fine in bed, and not fine while driving.
I pictured a "past life". Was it real?
The app treats it as imagination for you to reflect on, never as a real memory coming back. So should you.
Does the app know what state my mind is in?
No. It has no brain sensor. It measures how settled your body is: your breathing, how still you are, and your heartbeat if you wear a strap. Those are real numbers about your body. They are not a readout of your mind.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. It stays on your phone. See privacy.
Is it on the App Store?
Not yet. It is being tested on iPhone. This site will say when that changes.
